People today are often consumed by their facades: material possessions, appearances, and other fleeting forms of validation. You’ve probably experienced this too. Maybe you felt too focused on clothes, or were expecting constant praise and attention from loved ones for trivial things. Vanity, fraud, and rancor seep into our lives in ways we may not even notice, hardening the heart and clouding our true essence. These spiritual diseases create distance between who we are and who we could become.
In this third episode of How to Create a Magnetic & Strong Personality, Eram explores teachings from Imam al-Mawlud’s classic work on the diseases of the heart. She also draws on Shaykh Hamza Yusuf’s commentary to highlight how qualities like vanity and dishonesty corrode authenticity. Gratitude, honesty, and self-awareness, on the other hand, nurture resilience and inner strength. These lessons connect faith with the modern pursuit of emotional intelligence and spiritual growth.
True magnetism is born when authenticity shines through and the heart is freed from layers of ego and deceit. This session offers reflections that help you confront inner barriers and embrace qualities that naturally draw others toward you. You will learn how to recognize and heal these spiritual diseases. Uncover deeper self-respect, clarity, and the kind of presence that inspires trust and admiration.
Purifying the Heart for Spiritual Growth
In earlier sessions, Eram guided us through diseases of the heart that weaken the spirit. Hatred, reliance on humans instead of God, love of the world, envy, and displeasure with the Divine Decree were the barriers to inner strength. Each one quietly drains resilience and blocks us from developing a personality that radiates authenticity and magnetism.
This session continues that journey. Gratitude was highlighted as one of the fastest ways to lift depression and shift energy away from negativity. Gratitude raises the spirit and helps the heart focus on what is already present. It also opens us to more blessings from God. Eram also stressed the importance of surrounding ourselves with wise companions. Healthy boundaries and conscious influences create the structure needed for steady spiritual growth.
Vanity — A Solipsistic Disease
Vanity is a subtle yet destructive disease of the heart. Unlike arrogance, which usually needs an audience, vanity is self-admiration. It shows up when we glorify our beauty, status, talents, or possessions while forgetting their true source. This blindness feeds pride and distances us from humility.
Every gift is from God. Intelligence, opportunity, and talent are never earned alone. Vanity takes credit away from the Giver, while gratitude keeps the heart soft. Without this awareness, vanity corrodes authenticity and hinders spiritual growth.

Impact of Vanity
Vanity is fleeting. Achievements, beauty, or recognition eventually fade. History and revelation remind us that accomplishments are always part of a larger divine plan. When vanity takes root, it blocks blessings and distorts our sense of self. Gratitude, on the other hand, grounds us and protects us from pride.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ modeled this humility. When admiring his reflection, he prayed for God to perfect his character as He had perfected his outward form. This prayer shows the true cure for vanity: to turn admiration back toward the Creator.
Examples from History
- Roman Generals: A slave would whisper “All is vanity” during parades, reminding them that glory is short-lived.
- Moses and Khidr: Even a prophet with immense knowledge accepted that some wisdom lay beyond him, showing true humility.
- The Atlantic Pilot: Celebrated as a hero, then vilified within a decade. Public opinion changes quickly, proving how shallow worldly recognition can be.
Authenticity and Vulnerability
Authenticity is one of the most magnetic traits a person can have. When we strip away false personas, what shines is the soul’s natural energy. People feel drawn to this sincerity without even knowing why.
Yet authenticity requires courage. To be genuine means allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, which risks rejection or misunderstanding. Still, it makes us stronger. Real magnetism comes not from perfection but from having the courage to be true.
Fraud and Its Consequences
Fraud is another disease of the heart. In Islamic law, it includes concealing defects or misrepresenting reality. Spiritually, fraud is living un-authentically, showing a false face to others. The Prophet ﷺ warned that “Whoever defrauds us is not one of us.”
The danger of fraud extends further. It not only damages trust but also builds layers of deception that separate us from God and from ourselves. It breeds insecurity and hollowness. Honesty, by contrast, brings dignity and creates lasting connections. A life built on truth always stands stronger, and it inspires confidence in others.
Consequences of Fraud
Fraud poisons more than individual relationships. Societies rooted in deception become unstable and cynical. Individuals who practice fraud feel constant unease, knowing their foundation is false. It blocks growth and poisons communities. Those who choose authenticity and honesty instead create environments of trust and resilience. Choosing truth in small daily actions eventually reshapes entire societies.
Lying and Its Impact on Society
Lying is one of the most destructive habits a person can carry. It eats away at trust, creates insecurity, and buries the heart in layers of darkness. A believer may fall into other sins, but lying is incompatible with faith. It destroys authenticity and blocks the light of truth from entering the heart. This is why the Prophet ﷺ was clear: lying has no place in the life of a believer.
Eram stressed that lying traps a person in a web of confusion. One falsehood requires another to cover it. Over time, the liar loses their true self and becomes a collection of masks. This not only damages personal integrity but also erodes societies when dishonesty becomes the norm.
The Spiritual Weight of Lying
Lying is more than a social problem. It is a spiritual disease that chips away at clarity of the heart. Every lie darkens the soul and distances a person from God. Unlike other sins, which may come from weakness, lying reshapes character and fosters hypocrisy. The liar soon struggles to see the truth at all.
Truth brings light. It strengthens inner confidence and anchors faith. Choosing honesty consistently keeps the heart open to God’s mercy and protects it from corruption. Over time, this practice nurtures resilience and gives stability to one’s personality.
The Social Web of Lies
One lie breeds another. Eventually, a liar wears different masks for every setting — one for family, another for work, another for friends. This fragmentation isolates the person, since others interact only with the masks, never the true self. Genuine connection becomes impossible.
The damage is not only personal. Communities filled with dishonesty become fragile. Trust collapses, and relationships lose depth. Even those closest to a liar feel distant because they never truly know who stands before them.
Lying as a Cultural Illness
When dishonesty spreads across a community, the consequences are devastating. Societies lose trust, leaders lose credibility, and corruption grows unchecked. Eram explained that many of today’s struggles stem from a culture of lies.
Healing begins at the personal level. Each individual must choose truth, even when it feels difficult. When honesty becomes a habit, it ripples outward and begins to transform families, workplaces, and nations. The courage to tell the truth is both a spiritual duty and a social responsibility.
Rancor and Its Spiritual Implications
Rancor is a form of anger that festers into hatred and malice. It not only wishes harm on others but also poisons the one who carries it. While it may feel justified after betrayal or hurt, rancor ultimately blocks blessings and burdens the heart.
The Qur’an promises that in Paradise, rancor will be removed from the hearts of believers. Until then, the cure is forgiveness. Letting go does not excuse injustice, but it frees us from bitterness. Prayer, goodwill, and trust in God’s justice help dissolve rancor. As one hadith shows, a man was promised Paradise simply because he cleared his heart of resentment every night before sleep.
Cultivating a Magnetic Heart
We must know the diseases of the heart:
- Vanity
- Fraud
- Lying
- Rancor
They rob us of authenticity and peace. They weaken our character and prevent us from becoming truly magnetic individuals. Left unchecked, they block blessings and leave the heart restless. These diseases can be subtle, but their impact is heavy.
The path to healing lies in purification and spiritual growth; through these things, the heart becomes magnetic. Gratitude, humility, honesty, and forgiveness restore the heart’s clarity and draw us closer to God. Addressing these struggles step by step leads to real transformation. When we choose authenticity and truth, we heal ourselves. We also inspire trust, spread light to others, and strengthen the spiritual presence that makes a personality magnetic.
Eram Saeed’s Journey
Long before the world recognized the transformative power of gratitude, Eram Saeed was living its stark opposite. Burdened by financial struggles, legal battles, and single parenthood, she found herself on the brink of despair. Despite hitting multiple dead ends—from a series of lawsuits to crushing anxiety—Eram kept searching for a lifeline.
Her moment came when she discovered practicing gratitude. With only a phone alarm and a simple journal, Eram began to record and reflect on small blessings throughout her day. Within weeks, she experienced a dramatic shift: stress and worry receded, replaced by a newfound sense of hope. This inner transformation fueled change—from improved health and relationships to the launch of her teachings around the “Four T’s” (Tawheed, the Tashakkur, Taqwa, and Tavakkal).
Today, Eram stands as a testament to the idea that the path to lasting happiness and success begins inside. By teaching others to embrace gratitude and shift from perceived lack to abundance, she’s helped countless individuals break free from limiting beliefs and step into a meaningful life.
Expert Advice & Powerful Quotes
“Authenticity, I think, is one of the most attractive qualities in a person. They are also the most magnetic qualities in a person.”
“It is easier to be authentic and truthful than it is to be a liar, because you tell one lie, now you have to tell another, to cover that, then you have to cover another.”

“If you want to see dramatic change in your life…take stock of how many lies you tell in a day. I'm not saying change completely — if you lie on a daily basis, tomorrow you should stop lying. It will take some time to try to be as authentic as you can. Take baby steps.”
“Soft heart is where Allah dwells. Allah does not dwell in hardened hearts. Remember that.”

The Heart as the Center of Character
Eram Saeed reminds us that the heart is where spiritual growth begins. When it is weighed down by vanity, envy, or the hunger for validation, it cannot find peace. In Islam, the heart is considered the seat of consciousness. It is where faith resides and where character is formed. To keep it sound, one must release unhealthy attachments. Practicing gratitude, humility, and trust in God’s decree allows the heart to stay clear and strong.
- Listen to the Full Episode – In this session of How to Create a Magnetic & Strong Personality, Eram draws from classical Islamic texts to show how the heart becomes weighed down by vanity, rancor, fraud, and lying. She reminds us that spiritual growth does not come from control but from surrender. A magnetic personality grows out of a heart that is soft, honest, and aligned with God’s wisdom.
- Reflect on Your Own Beliefs – Ask yourself: Where do you seek strength and self-worth? Do you measure it by how others see you, or do you anchor it in the condition of your heart? A heart turned toward God becomes light. It is free from envy, bitterness, and fear. It radiates dignity, clarity, and compassion.
