When we force someone to give up on their dreams, we are forcing them to give up on an important part of their spirit. What we don't realise in our own selfishness, is that someone's dreams are a very important part of who they are and its connected to other aspects of their personality. When we force them to leave things they love, we are destroying part of their personality that makes them beautiful. Our desires are our personality footprints and one should have the freedom to pursue them in order to fully express the beautiful blueprint under which God created them.
