Human beings are naturally wired to resist change. The familiar is comforting, while change is often painful. Thus, our inner programming clings tightly to stability. But growth only comes through transformation. The only constant in life is change itself. So why do we keep resisting the very force that propels us forward?

This episode dives deep into the psychological and spiritual roots of our resistance to change. Specifically, the ego, backed by childhood conditioning and fear of the unknown, sabotages our growth and transformation. Drawing from spiritual traditions, neuroscience, and her own deep life wisdom, Eram unpacks why change is so challenging. What’s more, she explains why we must embrace change to open the gateway to our highest potential.

This episode is for seekers, spiritual wanderers, self-discovery enthusiasts, and anyone on the path of inner transformation. If you’re ready to embrace your next chapter with curiosity instead of fear, this conversation is for you.

Here are three reasons why you should listen to this episode:

  • Understand the true nature of resistance and why your ego fears the unknown.
  • Reflect on how past programming continues to shape your reactions and life choices.
  • Gain timeless wisdom about embracing change through spiritual principles and practical mindsets.

To Embrace Change, Look Within

One of the toughest challenges in the human condition is dealing with change. The ego so fiercely resists uncertainty, even when transformation and growth await on the other side. But there is a crucial difference we must address. On one hand, we have true control, which arises from awareness. On the other hand is the illusion of control, to which the ego clings for safety.

Surrender, rather than resistance, is the true beginning of personal evolution.

Why the Ego Despises Change

The ego is a protective construct born out of early childhood patterns. By design, it maintains stability and preserves the familiar. This programming begins when we are young children. At these ages, the mind acts like a sponge, absorbing everything from its environment. Over time, this deeply embedded conditioning becomes the “source code” from which adults operate.

When change challenges this internal program, discomfort arises, triggering the ego’s defence mechanisms. The result is resistance. This is not because we dislike growth. Most individuals know that growth arises from change. However, the ego equates change with danger.

The Misunderstood Nature of Change

Change is not a punishment but a natural response to imbalance. Its purpose is to restore harmony and guide us toward alignment. When life feels uncertain or unstable, the unknown is often just a veil concealing new directions, opportunities, and growth.

Still, fear of letting go keeps many people stuck in circumstances they should have been able to leave a long time ago. In these situations, it is important that we re frame how we view change.

Change as a divine signal. It is a sign that something in our lives needs re calibration. We must dismantle the myth that it is something to fear. Instead, we should see it as a compassionate force of evolution.

Nature Itself Embraces Change

A butterfly’s life cycle is a vivid reminder from nature that beauty and growth comes from embracing transformation. A larva, sealed within its cocoon, cannot imagine a reality beyond its current enclosure. Yet within its very design lies the blueprint for flight. Nature, in its divine intelligence, encodes struggle as part of the metamorphosis. Struggle is the enzyme for expansion.

Similarly, human beings must endure discomfort to awaken their higher potential. The process of contraction and emergence is the sacred cycle through which we unfold. Remember: we too are invited to grow wings and embody our wholeness.

Conscious Response vs. Subconscious Reaction

When faced with triggers, the mind automatically refers to its internal “software”. These are patterns shaped by past experiences that help us interpret and react to stimuli. These reactions, though rapid and instinctive, are often rooted in survival. They do not represent the truth of a situation.

Eram explains that the key to spiritual growth lies in pausing and observing these patterns rather than unconsciously participating in them. Observing our internal responses interrupts the habitual cycle of resistance. Conscious observation, not automatic reaction, becomes the bridge from fear to awareness.

Embrace the Unknown, Don’t Rush to Act

Central to this conscious response is a counter intuitive approach to transformation: when life contracts, do not rush into immediate action. The contraction phase is a sacred pause. In this moment, we have time to reflect, seek guidance, and cultivate presence instead of control. Acting impulsively from a place of fear or confusion only deepens chaos. True clarity emerges from stillness.

These moments are when we can simply be. It is a moment of stillness in a time of uncertainty. This pause creates the inner space for wisdom to surface naturally, allowing right action to flow from a grounded heart and calm mind. Although we do aim to embrace change, we also want to ensure that our actions align with the divine intention for us.

Relationships and the Growing Pains of Change

A universal and relatable example of how change can be painful is in relationships. Personal transformation inevitably impacts those around us. Sometimes one or both partners evolve. But this causes the balance within the relationship to shift, leading to friction and misunderstanding.

Some partners might see change as a betrayal. Others may see it as an incompatibility. But in truth, it may be an invitation for both individuals to grow. Some relationships outgrow their form and lovingly dissolve. Others deepen through the very process of transformation.

The key, Eram emphasises, lies in honouring each person’s growth within the partnership. Love does not remain static; it evolves as both people do.

Embrace Change and Transform Deeply

Resisting change only prolongs suffering.

Surrendering to it opens the door to healing and clarity.

Trusting in divine timing allows fear to soften and faith to take root.

Every contraction we face is a prelude to a greater expansion. Change is thus not a disruption, but an invitation from the Divine to unfold into our highest potential. Through surrender, we do not lose control. We instead align with the flow of life itself.

Expert Advice & Powerful Quotes

“It is usually because of the experiences that we had in our childhood that define our behaviour for the rest of our lives. So in other words, a five or a seven year old is actually running our lives, and these are such deeply subconscious and unconscious behaviours that we don't consciously know what we are doing or why we are doing, what we're doing in our adult lives, but that is where it's coming from.”

“In order for us to grow as human beings, in order to for us to get stronger, we must embrace change. Change usually is happening for a good reason.”

“In order to achieve that potential, we have to go through different stages. And every stage requires change. It requires that we may have to part with some of the things that we had become very used to, that we were very comfortable, that we accepted as reality, and we have to now step into a place which could be painful and it's scary because it's the unknown.”

“This is not the time to really go take action. This is the time to go within. This is the time to reflect. This is the time to really connect with yourself. Ask for guidance, ask for clarity, and then once it comes, you will feel a shift in energy, and then you will be able to embrace the and take action, and move forward from there.

“So we really need to learn and understand change as a good thing, and understand how to deal with it, and understand how to embrace it, so that we may really benefit fully from the opportunity which it really is.”
